The electric power industry is transitioning from highly regulated, local monopolies which provided their customers with a total package of all electric services and moving towards competitive companies that provide the electricity while utilities continue to provide transmission or distribution services. States are moving away from regulations that set rates for electricity and toward oversight of an increasingly deregulated industry in which prices are determined by competitive markets.
-
Almost half of the States have passed major legislation and/or regulations to restructure their electric power industry (see map). The States, which regulate distribution services and retail rates for electricity within their borders, each decides whether deregulation is in their best interest.
-
States that historically had higher than average U.S. prices, such as California, Pennsylvania, New York, and most of New England, have opened their retail electricity markets to competition allowing customers to choose their electricity supplier, while other States are beginning with a limited number of consumers. One of the major goals in restructuring is to lower the price for electricity. Industry analysts have cited Pennsylvania as the most successful State in achieving its goals in restructuring.
-
Under competitive pressure brought on by deregulation, investor-owned electric utilities (IOUs) are merging in record numbers. Since 1995, the FERC has approved 50 mergers between IOUs. These mergers are undertaken in order to gain operating efficiencies usually achieved by a larger company, which utilities believe is necessary to remain competitive in the industry. More mergers are expected over the next few years, resulting in further consolidation of the industry.

any of three species of fishes in the family Anomalopidae (order Beryciformes), characterized by the presence of luminescent organs just below the eye. They are among the few species of non-deep-sea fishes to possess such organs. Phosphorescent bacteria create the light continuously, but each species has its own mechanism for decreasing the luminescence; when swimming, some fishes create a blinking effect by alternately covering and uncovering the light. Each of the three species of lantern-eye fishes is in a separate genus. Two are found in tropical marine habitats of the Indo-Pacific region; the third lives in the Caribbean. All are small, the maximum length being 30 cm (1 foot). The name lantern-eye fish refers most specifically to Anomalops kaptoptron and Photoblepharon palpebratus, both found in the East Indies.
We introduce you to a species of fish qualifying for treatment under the exotic heading because it is both expensive and

possibly one of the most unusual species you will ever come across. First impressions can be deceptive and the image, right, is typical of how this species is depicted in many books. In the flesh a healthy specimen will appear solid black in colour having an appearance of velvet. For this reason alone it is striking and extremely desirable. However, this species has other strings to its bow and one of these makes it simply stunning.

The G2Z is a special edition CombatLight™ featuring the official logo of the National Rifle Association.
The Surefire G2Z flashlight is almost identical to SureFire’s best selling aluminum CombatLight, the Z2. It’s Nitrolon construction absorbs shock more efficiently than aluminum and provides this light with a lighter and more water-resistant body.
The G2Z is powered by two lithium batteries (10-year shelf life), and a patented rubber grip ring allows the light to be operated with a handgun using the Rogers / SureFire technique. And, although three to four times brighter than a much larger two D-cell flashlight, this lightweight powerhouse is less than five inches long for easier storage and use. The G2Z flashlight also features the unique switching originally developed for law enforcement — twist for constant on, or depress the tailcap button for momentary illumination or emergency signaling.
Quite often you find yourself needing a quick website banner developed for your website, MySpace page or even forum signature. But how to develop one? Photoshop is too daunting to use for most people, and hiring a web design company is too expensive and overkill for such an (apparently) small task. The good news is : this gap has been filled with many excellent ONLINE banner maker facilities. Try this search in Google to find a banner making service that suits you – many are free!

The info I had about the bulb claimed it “worked on 4V”. I decided to measure the Vf at a few different current levels to be sure. It turns out to drop about 3.4V at 15mA. I used a 110 ohm resistor which should yield around 25mA with fresh batteries. As the batteries die the current goes down and the Vf drops a little, which flattens the brightness curve a bit.
Shorten the long lead of the LED to about 1/4″ (should be opposite the flat side of the LED body). Do the same to one lead of the resistor and solder them together. There’s no need for anything
smaller or shorter than a common 1/4 watt resistor here—there’s plenty of depth in the bulb assembly.
As luck would have it, the best depth for the LED seems to be as far into the assembly as it will go. If you want to prove this to yourself, move it in and out and observe the pattern on the reflector. Insert it from the front, bend the remaining LED lead (gently!) into the deepest “trench” in the back of the assembly and leave the resistor lead sticking up. Hold the tip of the bulb with your finger and put a dollop of hot glue in from the back.

The Surefire G2 LED flashlight is perfect for outdoor use or just to have lying around your home in case of emergencies. The flashlight offers a maximum output of 80 lumens and can provide up to 12 hours of light. You can find the Surefire G2 for an average price of $60. Let’s take a look at some of the other features offered by this flashlight.
The Surefire G2 LED flashlight is designed to deliver a brightly focused 80-lumen beam of light. The unit is powered by two three-volt lithium batteries that can provide light for up to 12 hours. Many flashlights use filaments that can easily break or burn out. This isn’t an issue with the Surefire G2 LED flashlight thanks to the fact that it is equipped with a light emitting diode.
This light emitting diode of the Surefire G2 LED flashlight is protected by an impact-resistant window. The housing is also sealed which helps protects the unit from dust and moisture. The housing is also yellow so you won’t have any trouble locating the unit in the dark. You will also like the fact that the five-inch Surefire G2 LED flashlight is constructed of lightweight polymer. The flashlight has a non-slip grip so that you can get a secure grip during wet conditions or while wearing gloves.
The Surefire G2 LED flashlight has a prefocused beam, so you don’t have to adjust it. The unit is equipped with a precision reflector that delivers a smooth beam. The beam doesn’t have any rings or hot-spots. However, you can adjust the lamps and reflectors by hand to provide the ideal beam quality for various distances.
Another useful feature of the Surefire G2 LED flashlight is the tailcap switch. If you simply want to turn the unit on for a few seconds, you can simply press the switch. The flashlight will turn off when you release the switch. You can turn the switch on the Surefire G2 LED flashlight when you want it to stay on. There is also a lockout feature so that you don’t activate the switch accidentally while carrying it around.

P60L LED Assembly
|
|
|
|
Light emitting diode/reflector assembly that converts a SureFire 6P, 9P, G2, G3, G2Z, C2, C3, Z2, Z3 or D3 — any flashlight that uses a P60, P61, P90, or P91 incandescent lamp assembly — into a longer-running (and higher-output when replacing a P60 lamp assembly) LED flashlight. The P60L’s solid-state LED and precision reflector create a smooth, 80-lumen beam that’s bright enough to temporarily overwhelm an aggressor’s night-adapted vision. And it continues producing useful light levels for up to 12 hours on a single set of batteries, depending on which flashlight model it’s used in. Unlike LED conversion heads, which replace the flashlight’s entire bezel assembly, the P60L replaces only the incandescent lamp/reflector assembly. Simply unscrew the flashlight bezel, remove the incandescent lamp assembly, and drop in the P60L.

The SureFire U2 Ultra Variable Power LED Flashlight has a 5-watt LED and six selectable levels of brightness, ranging from 2 to 100 lumens. The brightest setting is multiple times brighter than my large Maglite flashlight.

The U2 Ultra tailcap switch can be pressed for momentary-on and pressed further to click constant-on. A set of batteries can last up to 40 hrs of continuous use on the low brightness setting, see specifications below. I looked in both the manual and website but could not find how long a set of batteries will last on the brightest level. So, I bet it’s not very long.
SPECIFICATIONS
Various bezel fitters (red, blue, infrared, opaque, diffusion, and traffic wand) are available to expand the U2’s usability.
What might surprise some of you (this fact certainly amazed me…..) is the cost of these SureFire flashlights. At $279 for the U2 Ultra and $299 for the Kroma, they are the most expensive flashlights I have ever heard of. Last month I did a review of the BriteStrike Tactical Illumination Tool and while it is a very nice flashlight, I have to say both SureFire flashlights are definitely a step-up in quality. I also went to visit my local Fry’s, Fred Meyer’s and Walmart stores to see what type of selection of LED flashlights were available. All of these retail stores had many (10+) LED flashlights varying in size from small to moderate and ranging in cost from $10 to $50. But none these appeared to have near the quality of materials and construction or durability of the Kroma and U2 Ultra.
All that being said, if you have the need for a small compact flashlight that has the ability to produce white, red, and blue (Kroma), selectable levels of brightness (U2 Ultra), or if money is no object; you should consider a SureFire flashlight.
